Advanced Cardiac Life Support &
Basic Life Support
I have maintained my Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) provider certifications since 2001. These actions that are advised by the American Heart Association (AHA) are in fact guidelines; but do have a strong evidenced based to support them in the outcomes. I also maintain my Pediatric Life Support (PALS) and Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC). Recently I have become a certified instructor for ACLS and BLS by the AHA. By helping others understand and learn the recommended guidelines to provide better care to their patients, I am also helping strengthen my own skills and knowledge.
As a charge nurse on the MS PCU, I also respond to code blue situations throughout the inpatient pavilions of the hospital. My primary role when I respond to these codes is to document the code in real time as it is happening in EPIC under the "code documentation" tab. This has been a major change for our unit, but enables me to utilize more of my critical thinking skills that I have developed over the years.
